The median sales price for homes in Washington DC for Feb 10 to Apr 10 was $360,000 based on 609 home sales. Compared to the same period one year ago, the median home sales price increased 5.9%, or $20,000, and the number of home sales decreased 22.8%.

The average listing price for homes for sale in Washington DC was $632,806 for the week ending May 12, which represents an increase of 1.7%, or $10,689, compared to the prior week. Popular neighborhoods in Washington include Georgetown and Dupont Circle, with average listing prices of $2,391,935 and $661,988.

History of Washington DC:

The capital of United States of America is named after the first President of the United States of America (USA), George Washington. The initials DC stands for District of Columbia. Previously it was called Federal City or Washington City. However today it is identified with simply Washington or just DC (the District) .

The city houses the main offices of the three divisions of the government of USA. The headquarters of World Bank and the International Monetary Fund lie in this city. It is home to the world renowned White House and the Pentagon.

The city covers an area of 68.3 square miles of which 61.4 square miles is covered by land and the rest is covered by water. The city is bordered by the state of Maryland towards the southeastern side, northeastern side and northwestern side. Towards the western side it is bordered with Virginia. The city is gifted with three natural watercourses namely Potomac River, Rock Creek and the Anacostia River.
